Steve Dale, syndicated pet expert shares photos by Dallas Yanez from Saturday's Stray Cat Strut Event, an annual walk to raise money for Tree House Humane Society. I donated the design they've used for the last few years on the shirts and posters.

I had some strange dreams last night...this drawing is a bit of an embellishment. Here's what it would look like as a 'day dream':

I vowed not to design any pet sympathy cards until Izzy left me...4 months after her death I started sketching designs, it was a heavy hearted exercise. I had to put them away for awhile but last week, one of my clients  sadly and very unexpectedly, lost their dog so I decided I should finish one...this is it. My grief does not arise without an equal amount of gratitude for having had her in my life.

New Logo Designs...Thinking Cap Tutoring:

I just finished this fun logo project for Lisa Nava, P.h.D. She offers psychotherapy for children,teens and adults as well as tutoring for kids and teens, mostly with dyslexia. I think it is a wonderfully friendly design for kids who might be more nervous about therapy/etc. The top logo will be for tutoring business cards and branding materials, the bottom for therapy.

I've got it covered...

The new Roscoe Village Chamber of Commerce Directories were just delivered to my studio...they turned out great! I edited the design from the banner art to fit this format. Looking forward to seeing those banners hanging in the coming months. Let me know if you or your company is in need of some bold, eye-catching art for brochures, banners, logos, etc...I love brain storming and helping clients with these kinds of illustration projects!

My favorite...so far: RV Street Banner Design

I'm working on designs to submit to the Roscoe Village Chamber of Commerce Board for new street banners in the neighborhood. I scanned the drawing from my sketchbook (below) and edited in Photoshop on my Cintiq...then exported the image path into Adobe Illustrator and added color. Every time I do this I learn something new (I have never taken a class). I hope they like this, I have other designs to show but I think this is the strongest and most fun...but may be 'too busy' - that's why I gave the single color options. Either way I have great imagery to use for future paintings!

Norcross Art Fest Poster Design

I just sent off the final art work for the t-shirt/poster and yes, another billboard (yay!) for the Historic Norcross Art Fest in Georgia October 3-4.

Lakeview East Poster Submission

Leave it to me to wait until the last minute...the Lakeview East Art Fair is having a poster contest this year and  the deadline is today. The only parameters were that the final poster/banners would be 12x24 and their info/text had to work with the image. I didn't have time to come up with something new so I mocked up these two recent paintings with text. Do you have a preference?

Border Collie Rescue T-Shirt Design #2

I recently completed t-shirt design #2 for Great Lakes Border Collie Rescue, they wanted me to incorporate agility images...looks like fun, something I should probaby get busy body Alice involved in. I'm working on a warmer hued version of this as well since reds, oranges and yellows seem to pop a bit more with the silk screen process which uses CMYK inks (cyan/magenta/yellow/black) vs. the RGB (red/green/blue)  color scheme seen on your computer screen and in my fine art print reproductions. I offer greatly reduced rates on illustration and design work for non-profits and rescue groups. The MIxed Breeds Note Pad Winner is...

Helping out the Border Collies...

I came up with this t-shirt design for Great Lakes Border Collie Rescue today...I hope they like it..I planned to go in a completely different direction but this is what my imagination served up this afternoon... I think it would be great on a shirt. I am so glad to be crossing some of these things off my 'to do' list...Now there are no more excuses for me to not go down and paint tomorrow! The danger of having the painting studio and office separate: I can't just get up and saunter over to the easel to paint on a whim like I used to...of course on the flip side when I'm down there painting it's completely uninterrupted, aside from silly Alice demanding some play time every now & then...and once in a great while Izzy checking in...my poor old girl is really slowing down.

Using My Art to Help Our Furry Friends

Tree House Animal Foundation has their Annual Stray Cat Strut on Sunday, May 4th. I created the design for this Annual Fundraising Event. These folks know kitty cats and they do such good work to find homes and improve the lives of so many of Chicago's homeless felines and other animals too.

Chicago Animal Care & Control Will be using my banner design again for Be Kind To Animals Week, May 4-10, 2008. The banners will hang at Chicago's City Hall in the Loop.

Logo Sketches

I'm working with Executive Director Melanie Sobel to create a new logo for the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission. Melanie made some wonderful changes in her years at Chicago Animal Care & Control, implementing progressive programs that helped change their mission,philosophy and culture. Animal placement increased by nearly 150%, and animal euthanasia decreased by nearly 20%. She is hoping to bring some of these programs to MADACC. She is very dedicated and I'm honored to be working with her again on this project that we hope will give a more friendly and warm image to this institution which down the road we hope will adopt out it's strays.These were my initial designs...too whimsical and busy for a logo so I went back to the 'drawing board'. Stay tuned to see which direction we went.

A Fun T-Shirt Design!

Camp Dogwood asked me to do their logo several years back and recently we hooked up again. I just finished this t-shirt design for their 2007 camps. I'm really happy with how it turned out. It's kind of fun to break out of my boxy compositions for a change. I started with a very rough drawing in my sketchbook which I scanned and then used my fabulous new Wacom Cintiq Tablet to finish it, it's an amazing feeling to draw on the screen.
